Darren Roshier

Jan 2013 to Mar 2013
1990 Vevey, Switzerland

Darren Roshier is invited for a residency of three months in AIR Antwerpen, which is the result of a collaboration with St Lucas Antwerp, Fondation Mercier, and ECAV in Sierre. Since 2011 every year one Belgian artist is invited for a residency in Sierre. In return once a year an artist from Sierre is provided with the possibility to do a residency in AIR Antwerpen.

Darren Roshier works with installation and performance. The projects are all connected to each other and are an attempt to play witht the “framework”: the boundaries of the medium, the world of art, the creative process and his own evolution within this environment. His works questions the cognitive comprehension of an art piece and auto-historicism. It puts the viewer in a dualistic position between amusing vs serious, failure vs succes, presentation vs representation, rather than encoding a precise and defined position. Next to this he is member of the RATS collective in Vevey and participates in the town council of Vevey. During his residency Darren Roshier is working on an exhibition that will include his experiences as an artist in residence.

He was invited for the following solo exhibitions: Tout sera prêt pour l’exposition, Galerie LAC, Vevey, Switzerland, 2012; Darren Roshier sera-t-il artiste? (Titre non définitif) Tentative d’obtention de diplôme, Ex-EPA, Vevey and Halles Usego, Sierre, Switzerland. His work was also shown in the following group exhibitions: So Swiss!, centre d’art de Le Pavé Dans La Mare, Besançon, France, 2012; Art moyen VS Ismism ou presque, CAN, espace L’Ov, Neuchâtel, Switzerland, 2012; Mit Ohne, Urgent Paradise, Lausanne, Switzerland, 2012; Histoires du violence, Galerie LAC, Vevey, 2011; La minoterie IV, Moulin de Rodynam, Orbe, Switzerland, 2011; Trois expositions, Procession, retours sur l’évènement, Ex-EPA, Vevey.
