Lukas Hoffmann

Oct 2008 to Feb 2009
1981 Woont en werkt in Berlijn

Lukas Hoffmann was invited for a five-month residency in AIR Antwerpen in 2008.

One characteristic of the photography of Lukas Hoffmann is the unspectacular of his pictorial subjects, often associated with the mysterious not foreseeable situation. His photographs subtly illustrate a de-facto state, where the position of the camera is an important part of the design process. Trees and plants, invade the architectures while wires and concrete walls contribute to the final composition. By photographing these indeterminate landscapes he reinstates the environment and offers a new perspective to it. Unpretentious, everyday situations grab the attention of Lukas Hoffmann and the line between harmony and chaos is questioned.

Lukas Hoffmann studied at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and at the Programme de recherche La Seine (ENSBA Paris). He was invited for the following solo exhibitions (a selection): Polderbos, Kunstmuseum Luzern, Luzern 2011; Les Eaux Calmes, Espace Lhomond, Paris, 2009; Window to Front, Jablak, Luzern, 2008; His work was also shown in the following group exhibitions (a selection): Uber Dich, Galerie Kamm, Berlin, 2012; Selection/Auswahl 2011, Photoforum Pasquart, Biel, 2011; ICI, Atelier Devot, ENSBA, Paris, 2010; Zentralschweizer Kunstszenen 2010, Kunstmuseum Luzern, Luzern 2010; La Cimaise, FRAC Haute-Normandie, Sotteville-lès-Rouen, 2009; Pieter Geenen & Lukas Hoffman, Filmhuis Klappei / AIR Antwerpen, Antwerp, 2009.
