Philip Janssens

Nov 2012 to Mar 2013
1980 Antwerpen

Philip Janssens is active in the visual arts and music. He works with sculpture, collage and drawing. His work deals with the relation we have with objects and the relation they have among each other. His works depart from the thought that the subject has no ontological prerogative and that the world exists alongside u. Next to his visual projects he's active as musician in Children of the White Leaf, a band together with Stefaan Huyghe. In this project music is made through field recordings, tape loops, and contact microphones to create coincidental sounds in a broader field of tones, drones and shy harmonies. Children of the White Leaf works with physical space, radio waves and everything that presents itselfs willingly to them.

Philip Janssens studied in Situ3 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. He was invited for the following solo exhibition in Martin Van Blerck Gallery, Antwerp, 2012; BB15, Linz, 2011; Rhok, Brussels, 2008; M HKA, Antwerp , 2006. His work was also shown in the following group exhibitions: utopie//toi pue//pie tou LungoMare/ Bolzano, 2012; PPP (Public Private Paintings), MuZee, Oostende, 2011; G58-G59 Mass Akker, Verbeke Foundation, Kemzeke, 2010; Honorons Honoré, De Garage, Mechelen, 2010.
