Pieter Geenen

Oct 2008 to Dec 2008
1979 Lives and works in Brussels

Pieter Geenen was invited for a three-month residency in AIR Antwerpen in 2008.

Pieter Geenen works with different media including video, audio and photography. Through his artistic practice he explores the boundaries between those media in relation to time and duration, as well as between the moving and static image. Landscapes, public spaces and fragments of ordinary life are often present in his works from a rather abstract perspective. He creates atmospherical worlds where terms like repetition, continuity and stagnation are often difficult to distinct from each other.

Pieter Geenen studied photography at the Katholieke Hogeschool Limburg before attending to the Transmedia postgraduate program at the Sint-Lucas in Brussels. His solo exhibitions include (selection): ‘Winner Art Contest 2011’, Museum of Ixelles, Brussels 2012; ‘Land Ahead’, Annie Gentils Gallery, Antwerp 2010; ‘Shot By Both Sides’ De Garage, Mechelen 2009; His work has also been shown at the following group exhibitions (selection): ‘The Narrative Condition’, La Capella, Barcelona 2012; ‘Parallel Worlds’ Manifesta 9 Parallel Events, Hasselt 2012; Freestate (Young Belgian Art), Vrijstaat O., Ostend 2011; Onion City Experimental Film Festival, Chicago 2011; ‘Cross-talks’, Crosstalk Video Art Festival, Budapest 2010; ‘No Place - like Home.
