Reg Carremans

Jan 2014 to Jun 2014
1981 Heusden-Zolder, lives and works in Brussels

Reg Carremans is invited for a residency of six months in the lock keeper's house and will also participate in the AIR Traces project.

The practice of Reg Carremans manifests itself through painting, but also through photography, video and performances. His experiences of maintaining hiking trails in the national parks of Iceland, made him leave the studio for the environment. It resulted in the registration of landscapes and trails on different materials (such as paper, canvas, photographic film), emphasizing the tacticility of the subject by rubbing against it or walking on it. His work shows how one can layer simple actions and materials by reflecting on the production process and context. Reg Carremans also explores narrative building blocks and archetypes, resulting in series of paintings and performances. The process is fundamental in his projects, always taking into account potential failures, mutations, elaborations and responses to practicalities.

Reg Carremans studied Fine Arts at the Academy of Hasselt. He was invited for the following solo exhibitions: Reg Carremans – The Formula, DS Contemporary Art, former railway station, Heusden-Zolder, 2011; Slag, DS Contemporary Art, former mine site, Heusden-Zolder. His work was shown in the following group exhibitions: Sideways, itinerant art festival, Belgium, 2012; Manifesta 9 parallel program, Genk, 2011; Simsalabim, SIM, association of Icelandic visual artists, Reyjkjavik, 2011; Images of St Paul’s in the 21st Century, St Paul’s Cathedral, London, 2010; The Choice of Guy Van Bossche, Indian Caps, Antwerp, 2009; The Choice of Koen van den Broek, Indian Caps, Antwerp, 2009; The Choice of Jan Fabre, Indian Caps, Antwerp, 2009.
