Traces AIR Antwerpen

Simon Feydieu

Oct 2014 to Jan 2015
1984 Pessac, France, lives and works in Lyon and Bordeaux

Simon Feydieu is invited for a residency of two months in AIR Antwerpen and two months in Artistes en Résidence Clermont-Ferrand, as part of the second edition of the Résidence Croisée exchange between Clermont-Ferrand and Antwerp. Visual artist Joris de Rycke is selected as the Belgian representant in this residency program.

The practice of Simon Feydieu exists primarily out of mixed media installations and interventions. These are created with raw and found materials. Traces of his actions and gestures become an important part of the installation. In his work Simon Feydieu focuses on process and the visualization of temporaneity. His installations sometimes resemble a construction site, suggesting continuous activity even during the exhibition. The materiality of his works as well as his concepts reacts on the unwritten rules of the exhibition space.  Through his titles and form Simon Feydieu refers to artists like Kurt Schwitters, or sometimes appropriates an art work by another artist in a new form.

Simon Feydieu was invited for the following solo exhibitions (a selection): Chapitre, Projektraum Lotte, Stuttgart, 2014; La Salle de bal des Demoiselles Decoiffée, Interface, Dijon, 2014; The Navidson Record, gallery Ilka Bree, Bordeaux, 2011; Collection, galerie appartement Chez Edgar, Paris, 2010; Alice Borgne, gallery Ilka Bree, Bordeaux, 2009. His works were also shown in the following group exhibitions (a selection): Showroom de la Manufacture 2/ L’imprimerie lithographique, French Touch Fishing, Paris, 2014; Mehr und weniger ist mehr, Gardenparty Project, Berlin, 2014; Le peintre, nomadic project directed by artist Pierre Labat, 2013; V:V, Atelier W, Paris, 2012; Exposition de Noél, Ancien Musée de Peinture, Le Magasin, Grenoble, 2011.
