Stéphanie Giorgis
Stéphanie Giorgis is the first resident, selected in collaboration with the School of Arts Sint Lucas Antwerp and the ECAV in Sierre, Switzerland. This exchange program invites a graduated artist from Switzerland to Antwerp and once a year a Belgian graduated artist from the St Lucas School of Arts will be selected for a residency in Antwerp.
Stéphanie Giorgis works with text, drawing and video, creating different spaces of projection in which the viewer is incorporated in a mental and physical way. In her controversial set-ups between a text piece and a video-installation she focuses on the notion of language in it’s different forms. During this residency she is interested in working with foreign languages, especially English and Dutch, to approach the question of translation and interpretation.
Born in 1985 in Switzerland, Stephanie Giorgis lives and works in Vevey. She studied in Geneva (Bachelor in visual art, Haute Ecole d’Art et de Design) and Siders (Master of Art in Public Spheres, Ecole Cantonale d’Art du Valais). She has participated in several group exhibitions like: Bis, Ferme-Asile, Sion (CH) in 2011; Masterpiece, Saint-Valentin, Lausanne (CH) in 2011; Situation 1, Ferme-Asile, Sion (CH) in 2011; Too early, too late, BB4, Bucharest, (RO) in 2010; Double Exposure, MEG Conches, Geneva (CH) in 2010.
