Iman Issa is an artist whose practice deals with questions pertaining to the available forms and methods for representing personal history, perception, and experience, and how these might intersect with shared and familiar languages. Her work spans photography, sculpture, video, texts, and installations, often relying on everyday and familiar forms to open up a space where unique instances, experiences and stories could be told and represented. Issa approaches the fleeting images, moments, and sounds that make up our everyday life as raw materials to be shaped at will, standing to speak of other moments, images, and sounds that may appear highly lyrical while never wholly defined. Confronted with Issaís work, one often has the feeling that he/she has seen it before, however it is not clear where or when and if in a pleasant dream or nightmare, for something always seems terribly off center, just plain wrong.
