Traces AIR Antwerpen

Alberto García del Castillo

Apr 2016 to May 2016
1988 Alberto Garcia del Castillo lives and works in Brussels

Writer and curator Alberto García del Castillo is invited for a residency of two months in AIR Antwerpen, where he will work on the writing of Merman, his second novel, which takes the old lock-keeper's house as a departure point. During his residency Alberto will be occasionally accompanied by Chanel, Dolce, Alejandro Gómez Palomo, Steev Lemercier and César Segarra.

Merman is a travelogue fable with Steev the Merman, Dolce the Dog, Chanel the Cat and Alberto the Human. During spring and summer 2016 Steev, Dolce, Chanel and Alberto lived in the former keeper’s house of the Royers Lock in the Port of Antwerp and sailed the Charleroi and the Willebroek canals through Brussels.

During the last week of April, Alberto will invite DATE to organise a reading club with Mikaela Assolent, Benjamin Blaquart, Angélique Buisson, Laurie Charles, Georgia René-Worms and Laure Vigna. Other guests will join this “multicellular community” during one open day of the reading club.

Before Merman, Alberto has published two books: Retrospective (Shelter Press, 2014) – a comedy-science-fiction novelette about faggotry and the art world – and Midpoint (edited with Laurie Charles, Louise Osieka and Marnie Slater. Théophile’s Papers & Europalia Arts Festival, 2016) – it portrays a slice of the history of Midpoint Café & Bar in Brussels from 2011 until today.
