During a residency of three months in AIR Antwerpen, Chantal Peñalosa is developing her current art practice in the socio cultural context around the former officer's houses at Kielsevest.
The practice of Chantal Peñalosa invests in tracing small gestures of intervention within everyday life, functioning as ruptures capable of reconfiguring particular, quotidian situations. These gestures principally focus along two axes: work and waiting in the socioeconomic context in the north of Mexico. On both axes there exists processes of repetition from both a labor perspective - interested in the wearing and alienating repercussions – and a waiting time perspective that understands routine as a dialogue that appears unilaterally in order to interrogate the process of documentation and codification of these very ocurrences.
Chantal Peñalosa has completed a BFA in Visual Arts at Universidad Autónoma de Baja California as well as the Universidade de São Paulo.
