Traces AIR Antwerpen

Lennart Lahuis

Oct 2015 to Dec 2015
1986 ° Hengelo, woont en werkt in Parijs

Lennart Lahuis is invited for a residency of three months in AIR Antwerpen in the framework of the exchange program 'Friction of Thoughts' between AIR Antwerpen and the Van Goghhouse in Zundert.

In his work Lennart Lahuis is continuously seeking the moment where the representation of the image fails. The images he creates seem to refer to absent situations. They suggest concrete narratives, a steady ground, but without offering the visitor a real grip. His works are traces of well controled gestures and happenings that can only be imagined. The 'Wet Scenes' series turns the descriptive task of text upside down, by adding the influence of temporality: the words are depicted are written in water on stone and irrevocably fade away during the exhibition. The texts Lennart Lahuis uses are own written texts or quotes: they describe situations and experiences, flirting with the border where truth disappears into fiction.

Lennart Lahuis studied at the ArtEZ Institute of Arts in Zwolle, De Ateliers Amsterdam, and won recently the Royal Painters Prize 2015. He was invited for the following solo exhibitions (a selection): Navigation, Dürst Britt & Mayhem, Den Hague, 2015; False Light, Apice for Artists, Amsterdam, 2014; The Garden of Eloquence, Moira, Utrecht, 2012. His works were also shown in the following group exhibitions (a selection): L'eau a la Bouche, After Hours Art Space, Parijs, 2015; Prospects & Concepts – Mondriaan fonds presents young talent, Van Nelle Fabriek, Rotterdam, 2015; Asleep Fingers, Kunstraum Düsseldorf, Düsseldorf, 2014; Offspring, De Ateliers, Amsterdam, 2013; Jonas Wijtenburg, Femke Dekkers, Lennart Lahuis, Jouke Anema, SIGN, Groningen, 2011.
