Phumulani Ntuli is invited for a residency of three months, as part of the annual exchange program between AIR Antwerpen/ St Lucas and ECAV Sierre/ Fondation Mercier Sierre. During this residency Phumulani Ntuli focusses on the production of a new film, departing from the imagery originating from the activities of Leopold II in Congo.

Through sculpture, video installation and performance Phumulani Ntuli creates artistic convergences in documentation and images. By introducing subjectivity Phumulani Ntuli initiates them as spaces of engagement. In his projects Phumulani Ntuli visualizes history’s gaps, breaks and silences.

Phumulani Ntuli holds a Master of Fine Arts - Arts Public Sphere(s) from ECAV, Sierre and was awarded Prix - excellence for his onging research project ‘Permutations of an even’, centered around notions of archives and surveillance. His works were seen in the following exhibitions at USEGO project space, Sierre, 2017; Performance Festival, Bern, 2016; Seven Hills_Kampala Biennale_Uganda, 2016; 21 Years of Democracy, Michigan State University, 2015; Infecting the City, Public Performance Art Festival, Cape Town, 2014.
