Feb 2018
1972 lives and works in Brussels

In the framework of the annual exchange between Kooshk Residency in Tehran and AIR Antwerpen visual artist Sadie Choua is invited for a residency of one month in Tehran.  For this fourth edition AIR Antwerpen collaborates with arts centre BOZAR, who supports the visual artist Amir Farsijani for a residency in AIR Antwerpen. On Wednesday 14 March 2018 both artists present their practices, research and current experiences at BOZAR.

In her films Sadie Choua combines her own film material with found footage, visual and textual archival materials, coming from various sources, such as national television, leisure programs, music videos and magazines. In her practice Sadie Choua focuses on the role of the moving image in leisure and politics and their influence on the common image of the Other. In some of her projects she introduces autobiographical material to research the role between herself and this Other. Her films and installations Sadie Choua simulates mass media conception seen from the living room, thus creating a familiar situation to hand over new images that suggest the complexities of the Other.  Sadie Choua shows the power structures behind the current image industry and the prejudices and the misunderstandings they provoke.

Sadie Choua studied sociology at the VUB Brussels. At the moment she participates in the international research - and discussion project named Perverse Decolonisation, at the Akademie der Künster der Welt in Cologne.
