Traces AIR Antwerpen

PROJECT: Fondation Mercier, Claire Liengme

Opening - Showroom - 6 pm

During this residency Claire Liengme created a new artwork, which is shown in this solo exhibition. This project departed from the experience of living in a complex socio cultural context of Belgium with its different official languages and migration and the experience of a similar dichotomy in Claire Liengme’s country of origin: Switzerland. Claire Liengme focuses on personal perspectives of people (a.o. coincident passers-by) and confronts them with their memories related to a particular location. The result is a collection of short stories, answering in an intimate and personal way to contemporary issues concerning society, identity and position.

Claire Liengme was invited for a residency of three months in AIR Antwerpen, in collaboration with St Lucas School of Arts Antwerp in the frame of an exchange project between ECAV Sierre and Le Fondation Mercier, Sierre.
